Objectives
Students will be able to:
• solve addition problems using hours and minutes
• independently solve word problems that involve calculating time
Resources: Worksheet, marker, computer, white board, Chart, Picture chart.
Previous Knowledge
• Tell time to the hour, half hour and quarter hour
• Features of an analog and digital clock
• Functions of the long hand and short hand
• Adding one digit and two digit numbers together with no re-grouping
• Adding one digit and two digit numbers together with re-grouping
Theoretical Underpinnings: This lesson incorporates Gardner’s multiple intelligences: linguistics, mathematical and musical intelligences.
Description of Classroom Environment
• The classroom is arranged to facilitate group work
• It is well ventilated to allow students comfort
• It is facilitated with proper lighting
Set Induction:
Teacher places chart on the board with four (4) worded questions and review the problems to ensure that students understand how they are solved.

Students listen.

Student will be able to
· State the number of minutes in an hour
· Solve problems by converting minutes to hours
· State time
Resources: Worksheet, Manipulative Clock, Picture chart, timer on watch, paper plates, construction paper, glue, scotch tape, scissors, marker, computer, white board.
Theoretical Underpinnings: Bruner - spiral curriculum, Dienes - active learning, Montessori - didactic materials, Vygotsky - social constructivism.
